Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village breaks ground for expansion of independent living homes

Four of the first new residents in an expansion of independent living homes at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village turned over ground today to mark the symbolic start of construction.

Diakon brings Glen Campbell...I'll Be Me film to region

Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries is bringing the film “Glen Campbell…I’ll Be Me” to the region.

By arrangement with the film’s producers, Diakon will present the film—which details Campbell’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease—at two showings, 3 and 6:30 p.m., June 15, at SteelStacks, Bethlehem.

Fitch Ratings issues BBB+ ratings for Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries bonds

Fitch Ratings of New York has affirmed its “BBB+” rating of bonds issued on behalf of Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries. The affirmation was announced in a news release posted by Fitch.

The rating indicates a “stable” financial outlook for Diakon; further, Fitch issued a “BBB+” rating in preparation for the issuance of $145.5 million of Cumberland County Municipal Authority revenue bonds, series 2015.

Two contractors receive excellence awards for Diakon projects

Two regional construction firms have received 2014 Excellence in Construction awards from the Keystone Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors for their work on Diakon projects.
Wohlsen Construction, based in Lancaster, received an Excellence Award in the “Commercial $10 to $25 million” category for its work on the new health care center at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, a Diakon Senior Living Community in Lewisburg, Pa.

Diakon child and family programs transition into separate organization

MECHANICSBURG — Since the mid-1800s, Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries has been serving children and families through a wide range of programs.

Today, those programs transition into a new organization known as Diakon Child, Family & Community Ministries.

Programs in the new organization include Diakon Adoption & Foster Care, Diakon Family Life Services, and Diakon Youth Services inclusive of the Diakon Wilderness Center near Boiling Springs, Pa.
